From Resident Kathy Gasta...
Hi
Friends,
As
you may know, my sister and I have been spending our spare time at the
newly opened Pet Adoption Center (a.k.a. GA SPCA – a non-profit, no kill
animal shelter). Fortunately, they’ve been able to save many animals
(from other kill shelters, puppy mills, abusive situations, etc.)
Unfortunately, services such as this require a large number of
volunteers. Volunteers take over the daily “housekeeping” duties,
freeing up the employees so they can go out and save more animals.
We’ve recently taken on the responsibility of Volunteer Coordinators.
Part of our role is to recruit and train “Tier 1” Volunteers. “Tier
1”’s will be the “mainstays” of the operation -- directing other
volunteer’s (drop-in’s, younger volunteers, etc.) and keeping things
running smoothly. Opportunities are listed below:
Calling
all animal lovers!
The
Georgia SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) needs you!
We have several opportunities for you to lend your time and talents
- and there are so many cats and dogs (and kittens and puppies) that
would be so grateful.
1.
Animal Care and Walkers - We need volunteers to help
with walking the dogs, cleaning cages, socializing and other care for
our dogs, cats and small animals.
2.
Meet Your Match - Come in and spend time with the
animals, learn their personalities and enter their characteristics in
the Meet Your Match program. This helps match potential adopters to the
right pets.
3.
Greeter - This role helps to direct the society's
customers to the proper location and answer basic questions while making
a favorable first impression.
4.
Volunteer Orientation - Help conduct weekly orientations
for new volunteers. These orientations provide an important overview of
our organization, while also giving specific information on our
volunteer programs, training classes, and additional volunteer
requirements. (Please note that a six month commitment with a minimum
of two shifts per month is required to join our program.) Right now
Sara and I are going to be conducting these training sessions, but we
are looking for others that may be interested, as well.
5.
Marketing / Public Relations - Volunteers are needed to
help the administration staff with a variety of jobs, such as entering
PetFinder Data (help with animal write-ups, digital photography and data
entry), calling recent adopters to follow-up and Pet Adoption Packages.
If you can make a commitment, we'd love to hear from you (even if
it's only a couple of hours a week.....more would be great!). This is
such a rewarding way to help....the paybacks are enormous (if you like
licks on the face and lots of tail wagging!!) Please e-mail Sara (sak1111@aol.com)
or Kathy (keg0807@aol.com)
if you are interested or have questions.
If you are interested in helping, but cannot make a firm time
commitment at this time, there are other ways to help. Right now,
donations are badly needed for the following items:
-
-Cat food (dry and wet) / Kitten food (dry and wet)
-
-Paper towels
-
-Anti-bacterial hand soap
-
-Hand sanitizer
-
-Spray cleaner w/bleach
-
-Laundry detergent

-Rubber gloves
-
-Old towels
-
-Rawhides
-
-Dog / Cat treats
-
-Dog / Cat toys
-
-Newspapers
-

These items can be dropped off at the Georgia SPCA (located on
Buford Hwy, 1 block south of McGinnis Ferry). They are open Monday -
Friday from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday
from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Shiloh & Cookie thank you!!
